Engin Club Appreciation Dinner 08

The first time of my life have such a formal dinner, except in weddings. My first time in blazer suit and my first time having to entertain VIPs. A wonderful glamourous occasion.

In my attire, or rather our attires, we all looked like hoteliers, especially with our nametags on. The event started with camwhoring, tons of pics, millions of flashes and of course, glam and unglam pics taken.

The real thing started at about 7+ where i had to look for the prof that i was escorting. Vice head of MSE, Associate Prof Li Yi. Pretty nice man, married with 2 children. His attire wasn't really the formal type but he's really a nice old chap. I had Chee Hong to entertain him with me as we sat at our table. On the otherside was a Miss Magdalene from EAS. Nice lady who shares lotsa her experiences.

Its a nice dinner where manners are really table manners are impt. Cant eat too much, mind your image... Even though i ended up cracking jokes a couple of times. Goodness...

ENGIN DAY 2008...

Started with the usual friday afternoon MNO lect... Its sorta a have fun and watch video in lecture type of lesson.

After that was SHOPPING again for appreciation dinner with louelle. Shoes, ties and belt. Had to get the remaining missing stuff on friday as there'll be no time liao... Went to suntec and did my "go in and conquer".... First for the shoes from Tracce, Belt from Man Studio and Tie from a pushcart store... Luckily louelle was there to provide the ladies' point of view on what's nice and what's not, or else i'll be pretty damn lost. Besides that, louelle had to get her heels!!! Hahaha.. We got to Marina Square for her heels after my shopping. Without much effort, we found ourselves in front of U.R.S where she got her heels.. LOL... Girls stuff are much cheaper man.... But they have too many varieties. Too many to see!

Anyway, we got our stuffs in 2-3 hrs i think? Hahha.. Yea!!!! Ready for the dinner with my suit and her dress!

After that was shopping or materials for ahem.... To make a ahem.... So ya... Heng eddi liked the ahem.... But it costed him... Hahhaa... Oh well... As long as ahem likes ahem... Thats all that matters i guess? Hahha...

Mamma Mia was the main event of the day!

This is by far the best movie i saw this year... Totally worth the 4 bucks.... Hahaha... Should say thanks sebas??? Hhaha... Even if its 10.50, its worth it... Started out funny though, cause i'm not really used to watching a muscial movie, besides High school musical... This is really good.... Mamma mia... Here we go again!!!! My, my, how can i resist you.... Gonna watch the muscial when they come! =P

Next up and my first musical... AVENUE Q!

Yep... We went there to support ENGIN at the finale as well as take pics with the trophys.. Workshop by ethan after that and then BOtAK JONES... Kaoz... Its ex.....

Yet another hell week over...

This week is full of adrenalin rush.. Firstly, this is the tutorial week where i have all the tutorials, i have a MLE lab report due, together with my first ever viva, 2 MLE2102 assignments due on thurs and we only got to know it on monday evening, a Pcell meeting on wed, and lastly shopping for my blazer suit.

Bascially, i have been slogging for the start of the week, till thurs when i finally decided to just relax and sit back after all jobs are done.

Shopping was great! Really loved the blazers in zara but they do not carry size 44! DAMNED! Had to settle for the blazer suit in g2000 in the end. They look nice too. Hahaha... We went vivo and orchard for 3 times in total. Hahaha. Who says shopping is for girls? =P Louelle got her dress too from wisma... Looks totally gorgeous.

Had our first ever officer's DG today. A round of intro and some questions and sharing... Nice... Besides that, i'll have my 2 times a month DG too.. Looks like i'm gonna have 3 DGs a month from now on... Well its good! I'm enjoying the word of god as i learn.

Lesson for the day..

Had the same old routine today which meant going to church and all. DG in the morning that and den after that was church camp meeting.

What have i learnt today... The Glorification of the lord's kingdom, the cross's meaning and least but not last, forgiveness. Of course... 

Forgiveness.

Man sin since god knows when. We've done wrong, thought wrong and even spoke wrong in days of our lives.  Its all from my layman understanding, and of course from Daniel's lesson from morning. Maybe Daniel can enlighten me some more. However, what makes us christians different from others? Is it because we have a god that's so gracious that once we confess, we'll get forgiven and we get scott free from what we have done?

The answer is No. We do not get scott free from all our sins. When we do confession before each and every service, it is a time for us to repent for whatever wrongdoings we have done, any evil thought we entertained and even curses in which we swore. Wy do we confess before Praise and Worship? Is to prepare our hearts, all renewed knowing that god has forgiven us for we have TRUELY SINCERELY repented to our father and promises not to commit them again in this walk with him.

Ok i digressed. Why do we seek forgiveness then? When we ask for forgiveness, its because we know that we have done wrong against someone, some organisation or even just against him our father. From our actions of asking for forgiveness(sincerely), we are asking for grace from the person we have wronged so as we can be forgiven and not held against with our actions. Its the same when we are doing our confessions to god. For he is forever magnanimous, we know that he is forever forgiving. However, we have to be sure that we do not take advantage of this god that we have come to know. Yes he is gracious, but he is discerning. God is not stupid. He knows whether we are truely repentant. Ok. 

This comes to a situation when somebody does something wrong and we are very unhappy about it. What do we do? It is always simple to say," Forgive and forget." How easy is it if the wrong is really of great magnitude? I guess it'll be the same for any thing. We forgive people as like God has forgiven us. We show grace upon others who needs it more as we are shown grace from our father. In short, we are all sinners and all in need of grace. It is like, we recieved 1 thousand dollars from god, that we won't mind giving 1 dollar to others. With such great grace from god bestowed onto us, we will always have some grace available for other, thus FORGIVE. Here, i won't speak about forget. It is not always forgive and forget. God remembers what we did against him! Just that he is so great that he can overlook the fact and gives us a new state of life. In layman term, its like he still keeps our record of wrongdoings, just that its in the recycle bin now and we have new blank document opened for us to be filled up. 

Forgiveness is not to hold against any people for the wrong they have done unto you. It is giving them the grace, a chance to repent and change to be more godly in their life.

Obedience

So why do we obey the word? Do we know who we are believing in?

These question are easy yet hard to answer. We obey his word, because we love him. Thats Jesus. For all he has done for us on the cross, he has attracted / drawn us to him when he was lifted up from the earth, nailed to the cross. For that simple reason, i am kneeing in font of him, acknowledging him as my saviour, the Christ. Our sins are too much to be forgone that god has to send his only son, a perfectly sinless man to die for us so as we can be totally forgiven, restored to our blank page state. Do we know who we are believing in? Yes. Its jesus christ. His words? The bible.... We obey the word, to be godly, to be like jesus in our life and because we love him.

When we say that we wanna glorify the lord's kingdom, what do we mean actually?

Simple... Its the promotion of god's character, to magnify it in this world and not the usual light shining on a place effect image that we always form in our mind when we speak of glorification. 

Our lives should be led in a way that we glorify his name and kingdom. All we need to do is to ask ourselves whenever we're about to make a decision, "would jesus do this?" I'll call this the Jesus test since i've learnt about the reasonable man test in biz law.

Cross

What does the cross mean? Finally i get to know about the true meaning of the cross. It symbolises capital punishment, in the time of jesus which is the noose now in singapore! It symbolises the putting of the old self, the one we are before we know christ to death, to deny its existence as we are renewed in the walk with jesus now. So now there's a old self, and a new self. The new self, we aim to make it as godly as possible while denying the old self a chance to manifest itself again . Thus, the cross shall always remind us, that we are to deny the our sinful self and to me, it shall serve as a reminder, that Jesus died on the cross for me and by doing that, he brought me to him.

John 12:30-33

Jesus said," This voice was for your benefit, not mine. Now is the time for judgement on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. But i, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.

31st first meeting. Engin Club AGM.

Well, after a long and early day of work, its time for AGM... Not to mention the typing of MLE lab report which got me lost and loster. Pardon my english.

Anyway, i managed to finish my part on the calculation for miller indices for NaCl, Fe powder and Aluminium sample. Or rather i just copied nd pasted from eddi. Left some explaining to look up to add into the report.

Anyway, jiahan and me had our first experience amending minutes. She looks so uptight and stressed. Hahha.. Oh well, we got the job done nevertheless. The meeting wasn't so long. Dinner was nice... Louelle was so hungry that she's gobbling down the food most of the time. Hahah... 2 drumsticks! I came bit late... Soon Kueh, 1 X sushi bla bla bla.. The catering was nice... Ryan reminded me on getting the disposable utensils for club... Not to let the caterers have them back.

Okok... She's got me hooked on notpron liao... darn!!! laters~

Busy busy week down. Time to study..

Another week has passed and i'm starting to move out of my comfort zone. The start of the new semester has been fast paced for me since i have decided to run as a MC member in ENGIN CLUB. This will be where my commitment lies for most of the time now.

There are so many stuff that happened, so many thoughts that ran through my mind. Gotta pen them down here. Events that passed... Nominations, Interviews, Rally, Elections, ENGIN BASH and finally the Internal Elections that just passed. I'm a bit tired physically due to the fact that i live in sembawang and the late nights, but am still good to go. =P

Well, i shall start on the elections. There ain't much to do except the printing of flyers and distributing them on the election day. Oh ya... KINLOONG'S birthday was before the elections. Eddi and me stayed back on the eve of election day to do up the printing of flyers and all. Nat, Yongxian, Zi Cheng and Chee Hong was there too. We were all staying in the clubroom relaxing waiting for Zi Cheng to reach cause we had to register him for the NUSSU van orientation course. He reached finally, our butts warmed our seats till it sorta scorched our asses numb. Anyway, i called Zi Cheng to hurry him and a funny way... As i guessed, he was quite lost but made it safe and in one piece to the clubroom nevertheless.

Well it was what i call a MC cohesion too though there's only the few of us there. We got our flyers printed in YIH and i wanted to dismiss Zi Cheng seeing that he really needs some sleep. However, he went back to the clubroom with us to cut the flyers. Nice guy... Good man. Oh yea, Peifen came to join us in clubroom too.

After that, we went to meet Kinloong and Wenhao in Vivo. It was Kinloong's birthday! As we left the clubroom, it was cheehong, eddi peifen and me walking towards the lift to the bus for 188. I realise.. "OMG louelle's in KR terminal!" Turn tail and ran to the central bus stop. Hahah.. Couldn't leave her there to go by herself. Anyway, i din't run much also, no bus on my tail. So we waited for the next 188 to come by, boarded and as we expected, eddi and peifen's on board. Cheehong ps-ed! Hahaha... Louelle drew this birthday card for kinloong. It is really nice. And we get to write in it! The problem is we couldn't as he was there to meet us le. So, we went to Kim Gary and all of us except louelle excused ourselves... Toilet.. Wrote our fill on the cards... We filled our hungry stomachs and went on to dessert in Ben & Jerry's. Sang Kinloong his birthday song which i guess he really deserves as our naga buddy. Would be better if we had a cake though... Oh well... Tried our best.

There's nothing much to mention about in elections. 7th place in votes. Hahaha... Guess girls get more votes? Hahaa... Chui... Jiahan was the ultimate highest vote. All 15 of us went in, and we had supper again... Actually it was only ice cream. So it was mac again!. Guess we have to make mac our official sponsor for ENGIN MC liao...

After that was BASH immediately. Had the only 2 hours MNO lect at 12-2, in which i sat alone for an hour cos wenhao din attend and louelle was late. We sat on the right aisle as the LT was so packed. Seems like a lot of people crashed, like us.. Had lunch and off i went to cut my hair and go for the BASH! It was ok ba... Not as fun as Chess finale night, just a pageant after all. kl, wh louelle and me went off early for porridge in china town. Century egg porridge... Hmmm... Nice..

Internal Elections was bad but not as long as expected. Nat had it for 2 and 1/2 hours. Eddi had it shorter i guess. Cheehong got bombed till he shagged. After that was the post for HonGen which i lost but i have no regrets cause my plans and proposals were acknowledged, even by ethan and lionel. I'm relieved with this. So i was gonna run for Hon A with the same proposal. Guess Jiahan will fit the job better ba.. Hahhaa. The elections adjorned and i slept over in yman's. The second day was faster. Louelle up first and she got it pretty hard too. But she did fine, with her MOTHER as a pillar of support. After was me and i got it easy ba.. After a grueling interview and speech + Q&A for HonGen, guess they expended most of their ammo on me. Oh well, as much as i hate it, i'm taking it fine. As what i always say," Take them one by one as they come."

I was quite disappointed with the loss actually. However, i know that my plans are appreciated. Thus, i'm able to smile, as cheerfully as i can. My nights din go to waste.

Thanks for your msg which brighten up my day (night) literally as it was very encouraging. It was all i needed at that time. I'll be stronger than how i looked to be. About my tone and use of words, haha... I will look into it... Till then, chop chop curry pok!

Thanks to eddi. Though i only managed to read you mail the next day, i know that you really wished that i had been the HonGen. But guess what? Shit happens isn't it. And this isn't exactly the worst shit. Thanks for the encouragement.

Lastly, khai who smsed me too. I'll be an important part, but be sure that everyone in this family is as equally important. Especially you and zihong. Our next wave, will be depending on your both.
